| From Naoko to everyone(3/31/2003) Hello everyone! Today, my band and I had a recital witch was tribute to Janis Joplin. It was a really really good show! We did it!!! Got great energy!! Thank to my audience for coming. Thank to all of my teachers -- especially Didi Stewart, you always give me big encouragement and tons love. Thank to my friends who gives me big big power. Thank to my band -- Ryan Fleming, Ryan Van Feet, Fabio and Miri, you guys made great job and great support for me. Thank to my parents and my kitty cat Melody, I love you! Finally, thank to Janis Joplin, you told me when I was getting so nervous yesterday night,"Feel inside of you. Trust yourself. Sing freely -- music has no rule" Yes, you gave me the answer!! I grateful for all of you very much!!! As you know, I have been pretty sick and couldn't have sung for a long time. It has been too much hard to me, BUT today, I was back!!!!! I was very very happy to sing with my best. I was not nervous on stage at all, but also was not perfect -- hahaha!! However I realized again singing is so much fun!!!! It is most important for any musicians, I think. But I keep working hard toward next stage, and I will see all of you at other shows which is coming soon!!! Oh man, even though I tried to calm down with sushi, even though winter is back, I am still hot!!!!!!!! Thank you very much!! LOVE, Naoko From Naoko to everyone(4/8/2003) Hello everyone! I would like you to share my pleasure. Selected nine Berklee students and I performed at Storytellers in David Friend Recital Hall tonight and the show went very well. I sang my original song "Crazy revolution". Actually I was so scared because ONLY I sang an original at the show, and singing my original with English in front of an audience was my first time. Especially, the song has big message about war. I had no idea how it would go. But, I believe my stage was really good. Let me tell you what was going on. I think that's good story. Listen. Before singing, I had to be a storyteller about my song because this show was "Storytellers". Oh, no!! Speaking on stage always makes me feel scared because I am not a good English speaker, but I did it tonight!! Like this.... I said "Hi everyone. How are you?" The audience said "fine." "Good"I said, "Good! Well, my name is Naoko from Japan. Actually I am nervous to speak English....... but I am trying it hard." The audience laughed. I did too and said, "I am going to sing "Crazy revolution" which is my third original song. This is about war. Actually we have the war with Iraq right now. I don't know if you agree with it or not, but I don't like ANY war because it makes me feel so sad, painful and kind of angry. And I think we need more real world, love and peace, so I wrote down this song which means 'War is just CRAZY REVOLUTION'." Then, the audience gave me hand! I was so surprised because I didn't expect it at all, you know!!! After that, I sang with my message and my soul on stage. Didi, Alizon and the band gave me a really nice support. After I sang, the audience gave me big applause. After the show, some of the audience came to me and give me big praise. One of them said, "Your song was so wonderful! Absolutely, everyone thinks so! I am sure!!" One of them said, "You were best. You know why? Because you have your own message in your singing." One of them said, "Hey, your performance was awesome!!" One of them said, "You, great job! you connected with the audience!" And another woman appeared and told me, "Your words have strong message. Also the song and the arranging were very organized. I am a singersongwriter and have made 12 CDs. So I know about music well. I was really impressed with your song and I appreciate to hear it." I was so happy to hear their words for me. I didn't expect anything. Tonight, I had no friend at my show, so I was alone, but some people I didn't know gave me very warm and a lot of words. I was very happy and thought I would (should) write my songs more and more. I was very happy because the audience received me. I felt my feelings went to the audience through the race and the border. My English is still not good. My lyrics might not good. My pronunciation in my singing might not good. But they understood my song and what I wanted to say!!! I am so happy and I am sure I succeeded tonight. This success is different from last Storytellers. Looked like smaller than before, but I am satisfied more than before because that's my own song, my own words, my own voice, and myself. The audience received all of me, you know!!! So I would love to say, thank to the audience, thank to Didi and Alizon, you gave me the great big support!! I love you both! Thank to other great singers, all of you guys gave me cheer, and also all of you guys, good job!!!!! I enjoyed all performance!! Everybody, great! Yes, all of us made the great show!! I keep singing. But not Janis. I graduated from her. I stop singing rock for a while and concentrate to learn classic R&B, Blues and Jazz. Also I will keep writing my songs with English even though it is hard. I realized original has big power to touch the heart of an audience. Actually I have some beautiful my original songs with Japanese, and I have some wonderful Classic Latin and Japanese songs I always want to sing. I will try to re-write with English. I am thinking some good projects!! When it is cleared. I will let you know about it! | ||
